Fantasy Baseball Elite
This is a free league, with the goal of encouraging and fostering activity as well as rewarding performance. High performing teams are rewarded, while low performing teams are not coddled.
General League settings:
- 20 team roto league run on yahoo
-25 26 man major league rosters
- Staring position - (C,1b,2b,3b,SS,OFx3,UTIL; SPx3,RPx3;Px3; Bench7 8). There will also be unlimited DL spots and 10 available NA spots.
- 6x6 scoring (R, HR, RBI, SB, AVG, OPS, W, K, SV, ERA, WHIP, HLD)
- No minimum MLB roster number.
- 20 man maximum minor league roster
- Max innings pitched of 1500
- Everyone please pick an MLB team as your team name. It will have no bearing to on rosters, but is just a theme we'll go with. (subject to change if the majority wills it).
Divisions/Management
- There will be 4 division of 5 teams. This a roto league, so the divisions are just for organization on the proboards site, and to determine the "division winners".
- Each division will have a division captain (or assistant commissioner), who will be responsible for updating and maintaining their divisions' official roster pages. They will also be involved in trade veto discussions as well.
Salary Cap:
- Each team will begin with $160 in cap space
- Starting in year 2, your franchise value (salary cap) will be based on league standings from the previous year with a $2 drop in salary per finish.
- $160 for 1st place; $158 for 2nd place, etc. all the way down to $122 for 20th place.
- This is to mimic a real-life financial system, where better performing teams bring in more revenue and have more to spend.
- In subsequent years, your cap will raise or lower based on league standings. $2(+/-) for every spot in the standings from the previous season. so a team that raises 6 spots in the standings will get +$12 added to their cap, a team that drops 6 spots will lose $12, etc.
- Players on the disabled list or NA list ('IL’ or 'NA' in the yahoo database) will count fully against the cap, but will not count against the 26 man roster. When a player returns from the IL/NA, it is the responsibility of the owner to clear a roster spot and activate the player in a timely fashion.
- If a team is over the salary cap during the regular season, the most recent transaction that pushed the team over the cap will be reversed. If there are no recent transactions, there will be automatic buyouts of 1-year players starting with the cheapest until the team is under the cap. Teams will be given 24 hours notice by both email and PM before automatic buyouts are put into effect.
Performance Bonuses:
- The league champion will receive a $3 salary cap bonus for the following season, and 1 compensatory draft pick in the upcoming minor league draft.
- Each division winner will receive a $2 salary cap bonus for the following season.
- The team with the highest number of places gained over the previous season's standings will get a $2 cap bonus and 2nd round compensatory draft pick in the following year's draft.
- All replacement owners/teams will have the ability to waive 1 contract penalty-free when they join. They will receive 1 compensatory draft pick in the upcoming minor league draft.
Initial Major league draft
- The initial MLB draft will take place on the proboards site with the following salary cap assignments:
-Round 1/2 - $11
-Round 3/4 - $10
-Round 5/6 - $9
-Round 7/8 - $8
-Round 9/10- $7
-Round 11/12- $6
-Round 13/14- $5
-Round 15/16- $4
-Round 17/18- $3
-Round 19/20- $2
-Round 21-25- $1
Total of: $135 to allow some leeway under the cap for future signings and trades. MLB picks can be traded during the draft, as can salary cap and minor league draft picks. Both teams must trade an even number of MLB draft picks before and during the draft. Initial contract lengths following the MLB initial draft must be announced by March 1st, or a default of 1 yr will be automatically assigned.
MLB Contracts
- Contract lengths can be chosen anywhere from 1-4 years. Following a contract termination, a player can be resigned for 1.5x (rounded up to nearest .25) their contract price for an additional 1-4 years.
- For example, a player with a $5 expiring deal can be resigned for 7.5
- Teams will have until the specified deadline to announce contract lengths. If contracts remain unannounced by the deadline, the player without time left on contract will be a free agent.
- All teams must remain at or under the 26 man MLB roster limit at all times during the season. Season is defined by the starting roster deadline date defined in important dates. The season ends effectively the last day of regular season all roster moves have to be completed before the last regular game of season. No free agent can be added to a team after the start of final regular season game. All bids are null and void if they are not completed before start of the final regular season game.If you make a trade that puts you over roster limit, you must make a corresponding move at the same time(waivers/buyout/demotion, etc) to remain at the 26 roster limit.
Prospect contracts
- All prospects are players who have fewer than 150 major league at bats or 50 innings pitched. The only way to obtain players for our minor league rosters is via the minor league drafts or via trade.
- However, minor league players can be nominated in free agency, during the regular season only, if they are currently in the major leagues (26 man roster). These players will have standard major league contracts and are not eligible to be demoted to the minor leagues at any time.
- A prospect must be promoted the season after they accumulate 150 at bats or 50 innings pitched. They can remain on a minor league roster during the season in which they reach these limits, but must be promoted the following offseason. All promoted prospects will play on a $2 - R Contract (rookie contract) during the year they are called up.
- The season after a prospect is promoted (either forced or after an expiring rookie contract), the manager can choose to extend the ($2 - R) rookie contract for either Ry1 or Ry2 years. After the rookie deal expires, the player will be given a $4 contract (choice of 1-4 years), and will then be subjected to the standard contract rules.
Initial Prospect draft
-We will initially have a 10 round prospect draft running at the same time on the proboards site as the MLB draft.
- Wewill have a 5 round draft in season 2 and every offseason thereafter we will have a 3 round prospect, in reverse order of the standings.
- Players eligible for the prospect drafts are any players with less than 150 abs or 50 up in the majors. This includes any foreign players, high schoolers, etc.
- In 2017 a 12 hour draft clock was voted on and accepted. A manager now will have 12 hours to make their selection, if time expires the next manager will then be on the clock for their selection. The manager who was late on selection may make their selection anytime after their expired time.
Trades
- All trades will be posted on proboards with both managers confirming the deal.
- All draft picks are tradeable, all minor league players are tradeable, and salary up to 2 years in advance is tradeable as well.
- Trade review will be done by the league commissioner and the admins. Not all trades will be reviewed - only trades that one of the admins feels needs to be looked at, or that a large number of league members disagree with. Vetoing will be limited to situations involving either collusion or consistent poor team management.
- The trade deadline will be August 31st.
Waivers
- Waivers will run through August 31st and posted on Proboards, a player waived will be posted for 48 hours. After 48 hours there will be forced buyout of the waived player.
- Any player placed on waivers will not count against your roster limit, but you will be responsible for his salary until/if he is claimed by another team.
- To claim a player simply post "claim" under the player's thread and you will assume his entire salary.
- Waivers will be on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Buyouts
- Any player may be bought out at any time up to the deadline for 1/2 his total remaining salary(1). After the buyout deadline occurs then the full contract can be bought out(2). If a player won in free agency is not picked up and a penalty occurs this player would be considered buyout by default and can not be bid again by the team penalized.
- (1)For example, a player with a $5/1 year contract can be bought out for $2.5. A player with a $5/2 year contract can be bought out for $5. Buyouts are to be paid in full at the time of the buyout and may not be spread over multiple years.
- (2) For example, a player with a $5/1 year contract can be bought out for $5. A player with a $5/2 year contract can be bought out for $10. Buyouts are to be paid in full at the time of the buyout and may not be spread over multiple years.
- Buyouts will be through August 31st.
- Teams that buyout players cannot bid on the player during the same season as the buyout.
- Teams may apply to buyout retired players free of buyout penalties by posting in the buyout section. Teams must place "Retired buyout" in the title or subject of the buyout and must submit some source that the player announced their retirement (unless it's common knowledge in the case of a well-known player). The preferred source is: www.mlbtraderumors.com/
All buyouts will be approved by the commissioner before being processed (To protect against a situation where a player "retires" with obvious intention to come back or resign midseason. The same process can be used for players who sign contracts to play overseas.
Free agency
- Every offseason we will open free agency on a designated date before the season, and the free agency period will run until the last day of the season.
- Free agent bidding will last 24 hours from the most recent bid, and must be in increments minimum of $0.50, with the initial minimum bid being $1.
- All contract lengths must be posted with every bid, but have no bearing on the bidding process. By league vote in 2021 the combination of years and dollars decide the winning bid for acquiring player. Example $5/2 ($10 bid) is a winning bid over $5/1 ($5 bid).
- Managers will then have 24 hours to clear a roster space or the managers bid is declared invalid. A $1 cap penalty will be be declared for all teams that do not clear a roster spot within 24 hours.
- All teams must have the necessary salary cap space available when placing any free agent bids.
- All players won in free agency or claimed on waivers must be picked up on yahoo within 5 days of being acquired. If not, the bid will be declared illegal and the team will lose the player's rights and be docked $1 salary. The team with the last legal big will have the option of winning the player or declining and placing him back in free agency.
- Conversely, all players must be dropped from the yahoo roster within 5 days of being placed on waivers, bought out, traded, or demoted. Failure to do so will result in a $2 1-year cap penalty per infraction.
- A $2 penalty will be also assessed for each game the player is in the starting lineup on yahoo when they are not actually on the team's roster per the league site.
- All players on yahoo roster must have corresponding roster move done on Proboards. All players being IL/NA/Waived/Demoted must be communicated why the player is not on your Yahoo roster once the violation is noticed the rights of the player shall be revoked/forfeited and becomes a free agent. Once the player becomes a free agent the owner forfeiting rights can not pickup player and will be fined the cost of salary of forfeited player.” Example: If a player is dropped on Yahoo and does have a corresponding move on Proboards the player will be designated as a free agent.
IL/NA/Suspended
-IL five slots are allowed by Yahoo in our league we can exceed IL slots by posting under Transactions.
-NA ten slots are allowed by Yahoo in our league we can exceed NA slots by posting under Transactions.
-Suspended players are considered NA in our league post under Transactions.
All times will be in Eastern Time Zone (ET) - February, 2022
