If this passes, teams will be able to call up minor league players in lieu of draft picks. Teams would post per usual in the draft round thread with their normal pick when it is OTC, only they would write "forfeiting pick to select "Player X". Each forfeited pick must have a specific player associated with it.
The team would then post the promotion in the promotion/relegation section. Each team will create one thread with their team name to continually use throughout the league. Not a single thread for each individual player.
And hopefully it goes without saying that this applies only to future draft picks. You can't go back and forfeit picks you've already made.
I'll lock the poll at midnight EST Friday night. Unless one option gets 10 or more votes.

Well, usually in leagues like this, after the initial draft, there is a 'free drop' period in which a team can renounce rights to guys that they picked and do not want to sign.
I see no reason why we should not allow that here.

I dont know if I agree with that. Just because they know now that their guy will be called up they get a discount versus someone who finds out in 2 weeks during spring training that their guy won a spot on the active roster and then has to buy out someone to make room.

Well, that's what we voted on. What you're suggesting isn't a rule change at all.. It would be making the pick and then putting the guy on waivers (I.e. Getting charged a $1 penalty), and then just calling up the guy.
I'm not seeing a functional difference between what you're proposing ($1 penalty) and the current rules before the vote. Let me know if I'm misunderstanding

It's just a logistical thing of not actually making them take the player, add them to their roster and then waive them. Basically just allows them to take out the middle man and say I know I am going to just cut the guy anyway so let's just bypass the effort of adding the scrub, waiving the scrub and cutting the scrub. I mean if you are ok with allowing anyone that wants to promote a minor leaguer to be able to freely waive ANY of their $1 players BEFORE the 1st game of the season (ONLY to promote one of their minor leaguers) then I would be fine with that, but having to decide now versus 3 weeks from now before the first pitch of the actual game I dont see why 1 guy should be penalized a buyout for doing the same thing. That's my only point.

Like I said, as long as we are allowed to "denounce" our guys until the Australia game starts, I am ok with it, but ONLY the $1 guys can be denounced. You can't back out of the more expensive contracts.

Feb 26, 2024 9:15:10 GMT -5
Ryan (Cubs): Yes. 20 prospects is the MiLB max, you either need to drop a prospect or call someone up if you are over that limit.
Feb 26, 2024 11:56:08 GMT -5
Red Sox (Kris): I don’t, but I know that some do. So, to be clear, we can draft over the 20 limit as long as we cut down before the season starts?
Feb 29, 2024 23:45:26 GMT -5
Ryan (Cubs): Technically you should be dropping a player anytime a draft pick or trade takes you over the limit of 20. I must've missed it but Yankees needs to release one of his MiLB players, they are the only team over the limit right now

Ryan (Cubs): Technically you can't bid on Yuki in free agency until he pitches an inning in the MLB. You could have drafted him in the MiLB draft, but players that haven't made their debut can't be nominated in Free Agency.

Ryan (Cubs): @mariners, correct. LAD's bid on Blanco put him $.25 over the cap so the bid is invalidated. I've messaged LAD and dropped Blanco from his roster
