Hey guys, I had an idea and just wanted to put it out there to see if there was any interest in something like this for our league.
I am proposing that at the midpoint of the season we have an auction for prospects who are not currently on anyone's MILB roster.
Reasons for this:
1. Creates more parity in the league. Currently, the draft we offer allows teams to build their systems, but it is limited, and makes it hard for teams who are not competing currently to re-build their team in a timely manner.
2. Gives teams opportunities to own more MILB players and have a greater talent pool including prospects who start performing well during the year and maybe were not ones to notice at the start of the year.
3. Makes cash a more important resource with added possibilities for use.
Other rules that would need to be added to this:
1. Only players with 1 season of experience at the MILB level are eligible. This keeps the other draft pertinent and leaves valuable players there as well.
2. We would probably want to set a MILB roster limit if we added in an auction like this. It could still be rather large, even 30-40 players if we wanted, but if this is something we wanted to pursue, we could always figure out a specific number later on so one team couldn't tank and own all the prospects.
3. We would also need to set rules for how teams win, IE: Does highest yearly money total win, or total contract value? We could also stick with what he have now in FA bidding as well.
I know this would take a bit of work, and I would be more than happy to create a Master List of prospects for the draft, and would also be happy to oversee everything if we needed others to help with roster edits, closing out bids, etc.
Would love to hear everyone's thoughts on this to see if there is any interest at all. Would love to hear questions and comments as well.
