The new deadline is frustrating. I understand wanting to stop managers from dumping salary at the end of the year to pick up cheap free agents but shouldn't the free agent rule change if that is the purpose? Give managers a week after september call ups to bid on free agents and then have free agency close until the offseason.
This new deadline does more harm than good in my opinion as the middle teams who might have a little cap to dump a player or 2 on this year's caps will have to wait and dump the player on next year's cap.
I like the Free Agent pickup deadline idea for next year but I don't want to get screwed with repealing the buyout deadline because I followed the rules. I don't want to be a dick but I dropped a couple guys that were helping me a little to get out of the contract. I think their should be an Add/Drop deadline for next year (excluding waivers) for buyouts and free agents.
I don't mind Brandy's idea either. It makes you not be able to just buyout as easily as it is now. A few things to consider this offseason. Thanks commish
I don't like 100% buyouts during the season. I'd rather see an earlier buyout deadline, but in mid-september instead of the beginning of september.
We need to keep a system in place that allows teams that are run into the cap ground by managers who leave a chance to dump cap. Also, if there is a little more flexibility, hopefully a few more managers stay around instead of leaving once the cap gets tight.
Personally, I'd rather see incentives for teams that do well than punishments against teams that don't do well. So much can happen, especially with pitchers, that we need a way to dump some bad moves.
Personally, I think teams that are active in September should be able to dump bad contracts and sign guys with the cap room. It rewards staying engaged until the end of the season no matter where you are in the standings.
I didn't know this thread even existed...I'm late to this thread but made my position known several times on the main "shoutbox"...I think an early buyout deadline which as far as I can tell occurred without notice is unfair, especially to the newbies like me...we're still learning the way the leagues work...I find out there is no carry over of any cap excess but I can use it for buyouts, then I find that buyouts are no longer allowed...I didn't even know there was a buyout deadline, much less that the deadline was moved up this year...and now that I look at the official league rules, which are all I can go by, it says buyouts are allowed through the end of the season...
1. Buyout date got moved back not up. The date passed and then it was posted that since their was no warning and this is the first year it has been done, it is being extended by a week. 2. I get that you may not have seen it during the offseason because you joined late, which is the one thing that is unfortunate since it is still wrong in the rules.
Ryan (Cubs): Today is the last day to re-sign your restricted free agents! All players that are left unsigned will be dropped tomorrow and eligible for free agency

Red Sox (Kris): We still have a MAX 20 prospects, correct?
Feb 26, 2024 9:15:10 GMT -5
Ryan (Cubs): Yes. 20 prospects is the MiLB max, you either need to drop a prospect or call someone up if you are over that limit.
Feb 26, 2024 11:56:08 GMT -5
Red Sox (Kris): I don’t, but I know that some do. So, to be clear, we can draft over the 20 limit as long as we cut down before the season starts?
Feb 29, 2024 23:45:26 GMT -5
Ryan (Cubs): Technically you should be dropping a player anytime a draft pick or trade takes you over the limit of 20. I must've missed it but Yankees needs to release one of his MiLB players, they are the only team over the limit right now

Rockies (Jose): Is Yuki Matsui rostered?
Mar 12, 2024 16:15:04 GMT -5
Ryan (Cubs): Technically you can't bid on Yuki in free agency until he pitches an inning in the MLB. You could have drafted him in the MiLB draft, but players that haven't made their debut can't be nominated in Free Agency.

Mariners (Rook): I do believe Ronel Blanco free agent final bid of $3/3 by LAD is invalid and the player should be returned to free agency. That was LAD last transaction and it put his cap -0.25. We can’t go negative cap. What say you?

Ryan (Cubs): @mariners, correct. LAD's bid on Blanco put him $.25 over the cap so the bid is invalidated. I've messaged LAD and dropped Blanco from his roster
