I'm not sure which way to go but I like the idea of being able to pick up prospects ANY TIME but dont like not being able to demote them. I'd prefer some free movement between mlb and milb

The option to not demote them keeps people from stock piling TOO many minor leaguers. If you want to sign a AA or AAA guy AFTER the minor league draft period, you should have to pay them a major league salary, but I have no problem if teams want to pay major league money for minor leaguers hoping they pan out.
just for arguments sake though guys its a 20 team league and at some point we are going to see people with a ton of MILB or young talent it has to be allowed or we have to stick with the status quo and keep minors to draft only
If I suck horribly then I would want the ability to add prospects via trad and or fa signing to my big league roster. Otherwise youl see teams without the ability to rebuild this way.
It makes it complicated and so ill vote for draft only

That's the key. Is if it's draft only, you wouldn't be able to rebuild with young players until they reached the min. innings or at bats. We are talking about waiting almost a month after a player gets the call up to the majors before you can add them to your team. To me, its going to be more trouble for the league to have to verify every bid as to whether or not the person has the min. requirements.
How do we replenish our milb roster? Particularly in-season?
Im all for free movement of players from fa to milb to mlb, why lock it down? If see a prospest that i like i can start the fa bidding and whomever wins that player should now be able to promote or demote without restriction.
I find the more rules you put in place the more work for commish and the more chance of there being a loop hole for a manager exploit.

You really dont replenish the minor leagues during the season. Because the problem with bidding on them only to demote them, is minor leaguers and major leaguers are signed to different contracts. The contract rules are different for minor leaguers. So it would be tough to bid on a guy using the major league system, and then demote them to the minors. My point in bringing this up was like an example someone else used. Danny Salazar last season. Wasnt a highly touted prospect. Wasnt really owned in most of my dynasty leagues. But made a huge splash. Under our current rules, we wouldnt be able to sign him until AFTER his final start of the season in September when he finally hit 50 IP.

One solution would be to allow major league bidding on prospects that are in the major leagues. So once an unowned prospect is called up in real life, he is eligible to be nominated. They would still not be eligible for demotion (even if they get demoted back down in real life due to the major league contract). But they would be eligible for the NA spot.

Okay, this one is closed as well since we have 11 votes, including the one that couldn't vote (not sure why, BTW but I'll investigate). So we will keep it as written in the league rules. Thanks to everyone for their votes/input.

Red Sox (Kris): We still have a MAX 20 prospects, correct?
Feb 26, 2024 9:15:10 GMT -5
Ryan (Cubs): Yes. 20 prospects is the MiLB max, you either need to drop a prospect or call someone up if you are over that limit.
Feb 26, 2024 11:56:08 GMT -5
Red Sox (Kris): I don’t, but I know that some do. So, to be clear, we can draft over the 20 limit as long as we cut down before the season starts?
Feb 29, 2024 23:45:26 GMT -5
Ryan (Cubs): Technically you should be dropping a player anytime a draft pick or trade takes you over the limit of 20. I must've missed it but Yankees needs to release one of his MiLB players, they are the only team over the limit right now

Mar 12, 2024 16:15:04 GMT -5
Ryan (Cubs): Technically you can't bid on Yuki in free agency until he pitches an inning in the MLB. You could have drafted him in the MiLB draft, but players that haven't made their debut can't be nominated in Free Agency.

Mariners (Rook): I do believe Ronel Blanco free agent final bid of $3/3 by LAD is invalid and the player should be returned to free agency. That was LAD last transaction and it put his cap -0.25. We can’t go negative cap. What say you?

Ryan (Cubs): @mariners, correct. LAD's bid on Blanco put him $.25 over the cap so the bid is invalidated. I've messaged LAD and dropped Blanco from his roster
