I think we should consider capping the number of players that can be bid on at a time during free agency...possibly at 5-7 players at a time. I think this will help with the trouble we had last year with overbidding and bidding up players
I think just the cap of you can't have bids out that exceed the amount of cap you have is the way to go. So if you only have $20 cap you can't have current bids out that exceed $20.
I may be confused about the rules on free agency. I know we can not be over 25 players right now. Right now, I have 25 players on my roster. Does that mean I can’t bid on free agency players, or, lets say sign two more players, keeping two players on stand-by?
I believe if you have cap money you can bid and if you win you must waive or buyout a player to make room. This is the process for the whole season I think.

During the season, players go DL and NA (minors demotion). It is played out like a real major-league team. You could have 25 healthy players, five injured, and two designated for assignment – minor leaguers. When the season starts, everyone is put back to 100%. This is the only time of year where your staff needs to be 25 or less. After players start to hit the disabled list, you can increase that number ( free agents and waivers are examples of how to get players), when you're injured player is no longer injured, you would bring them back to your team and trade or waive a player to make room – unless another player gets injured at the same time and you do a swap. Let me know if you still have questions.
Thanks Kyle..the better looking Kyle (Cubs), ha ha, also helped me with this as well. I also might have a few players on waivers who are never claimed all year. That doesn’t count against my 25 man roster. That would increase my contracted players over the 25......get it....got it. Thanks again.

Over bidding and blowing your cap (inadvertently or not) was a big problem last season. Really need an open discussion on how to fix this.
Also think you should have the cap space BEFORE you bid on a player. You should never ever be allowed to go over cap because once you open it up as is it is currently where managers have a few days, or whatever the rule is, then it becomes a free for all and very difficult to manage. Same with the 25 max roster size - should never be allowed to go over that.

This has probably been discussed before...I will use this example. I am putting Jorge Soler on waivers. He is $4/2. I doubt anyone will claim him. Lets pretend no one does, ok.......Waivers dont’ go against my 25 limit. I sign a catcher via free agency. Now I have 26 roster players. Now, suppose an OF goes on the DL. Choices are, bid via free agency for new player, or pull Soler off waivers. If I plug Soler into my line up, I don’t miss a beat or day of stats. If I bid on free agency, there is some lag. I will miss a day of stats.
I would think once you put a player on waivers, he can not rejoin your team ever. Second, once he goes on waivers, and no one claims him after X number of days, you should have to buy back his contract.
Ryan (Cubs): Today is the last day to re-sign your restricted free agents! All players that are left unsigned will be dropped tomorrow and eligible for free agency

Red Sox (Kris): We still have a MAX 20 prospects, correct?
Feb 26, 2024 9:15:10 GMT -5
Ryan (Cubs): Yes. 20 prospects is the MiLB max, you either need to drop a prospect or call someone up if you are over that limit.
Feb 26, 2024 11:56:08 GMT -5
Red Sox (Kris): I don’t, but I know that some do. So, to be clear, we can draft over the 20 limit as long as we cut down before the season starts?
Feb 29, 2024 23:45:26 GMT -5
Ryan (Cubs): Technically you should be dropping a player anytime a draft pick or trade takes you over the limit of 20. I must've missed it but Yankees needs to release one of his MiLB players, they are the only team over the limit right now

Rockies (Jose): Is Yuki Matsui rostered?
Mar 12, 2024 16:15:04 GMT -5
Ryan (Cubs): Technically you can't bid on Yuki in free agency until he pitches an inning in the MLB. You could have drafted him in the MiLB draft, but players that haven't made their debut can't be nominated in Free Agency.

Mariners (Rook): I do believe Ronel Blanco free agent final bid of $3/3 by LAD is invalid and the player should be returned to free agency. That was LAD last transaction and it put his cap -0.25. We can’t go negative cap. What say you?

Ryan (Cubs): @mariners, correct. LAD's bid on Blanco put him $.25 over the cap so the bid is invalidated. I've messaged LAD and dropped Blanco from his roster
