How would people feel about allowing a 25 man minor league system this year? With plenty of teams starting to get up to that limit, it would suck losing players and losing value of 3rd round picks, especially for rebuilding teams taking some shots at hopeful contributors. Now that there have been years of drafts, not everyone has progressed quickly and I think we should bump it up a little

I'd be against the change now. Now if we vote to enact the trade in a year orn2 maybe. But starting it now only benefits teams already with lots of prospects. Teams with few really dont gain much as they wont have enough picks to catch up anyway.

Agree with Tampa. If you want a poll, I would say for 2021-2022 offseason, that would give teams enough time to build up minor leaguers if they seem fit.

That far out i ridiculous come on lol. One year in advance is more than fine.
Teams that build for the future shouldn't be disciplined. Plus having rules that far out is utter insanity. If we want to wait a year, that is fair but waiting 2-3 years for a rollout is ridiculous

Not sure if expanded MiLB rosters gets our free agent pool better. I really think we are discussing individual owners decision points and where owners place value. Be it based on bidding up free agents, draft picks, waiver, and roster limits. We need to make owners make quality choices not push decisions off.
When I came into the league the previous owner had been kicked out. Several of the decisions the previous owner had made from the initial draft had put serious financial constraints on the roster. I did not have any extra money to buyout obvious bloated contracts, I had to use the waiver wire to remove players from my active roster. It took me about 3 years to build and make a competitive team. I have had to weigh short and long term decisions to build a competitive roster. Last year I choose to not fully use my finances to add to my active roster but elected to buy draft picks to build on my minor league roster.
I know several managers are fairly new and get frustrated with the unique choices you need to make to be a challenger for the top spot in this league. We might not have a perfect league but it is different, giving each owner a different prospective for structuring their team. I would like to stress we need to keep openly discussing rule changes and vote on new rules to make our league better.

The other worry of expansion of minor leaguers, is even more college, international, high school etc talent will be drafted YEARS before they are true prospects, which to me, WEAKENS the draft pool overall. If 50% of the first round talent was drafted 3 years ago, when they were not real MLB draft eligible... there is no draft advantage. This is already one of the toughest drafts because of the fact that we can draft 15 year olds if we really want to, and baseball is by far the toughest sport to build through the draft because it takes 2-3 years for even the TOP rookies to be impactful.

What is the harm in expanding it to 25? We weren't talking about adding more picks to the draft, just about accomodating the accumulation of prospects that people get through the draft. This wouldn't affect strategy, or what type of players get drafted or the amount of them. Every year each team drafts 3, but less than 3 graduate. I don't see an issue with expanding to 25.
What was the reason for the limit on minor leaguers in the first place? If you make trades to acquire prospects I don't feel there should be any limitations. Just one mans opinion.
Should not be implemented this year if it were to pass. Next year if fine. As usual, I look at the motives of those pushing for change. There is real motivation for one team to get that passed for this year. Not saying names. Check it out.

Red Sox (Kris): We still have a MAX 20 prospects, correct?
Feb 26, 2024 9:15:10 GMT -5
Ryan (Cubs): Yes. 20 prospects is the MiLB max, you either need to drop a prospect or call someone up if you are over that limit.
Feb 26, 2024 11:56:08 GMT -5
Red Sox (Kris): I don’t, but I know that some do. So, to be clear, we can draft over the 20 limit as long as we cut down before the season starts?
Feb 29, 2024 23:45:26 GMT -5
Ryan (Cubs): Technically you should be dropping a player anytime a draft pick or trade takes you over the limit of 20. I must've missed it but Yankees needs to release one of his MiLB players, they are the only team over the limit right now

Mar 12, 2024 16:15:04 GMT -5
Ryan (Cubs): Technically you can't bid on Yuki in free agency until he pitches an inning in the MLB. You could have drafted him in the MiLB draft, but players that haven't made their debut can't be nominated in Free Agency.

Mariners (Rook): I do believe Ronel Blanco free agent final bid of $3/3 by LAD is invalid and the player should be returned to free agency. That was LAD last transaction and it put his cap -0.25. We can’t go negative cap. What say you?

Ryan (Cubs): @mariners, correct. LAD's bid on Blanco put him $.25 over the cap so the bid is invalidated. I've messaged LAD and dropped Blanco from his roster
