1. No Change = The higher yearly bid always wins. A $4.5-1yr bid wins over a $4-2yr bid. The player chooses the highest amount of money in the first year with no regard to the years.
2. Total Contract Value Wins = The higher total value of the contract wins. A $4.5-1yr (4.5 points) bid loses to a $4-2yr bid (8 points). Eliminates the rental idea, can make you commit to a player longer term and reduce the chances of $20+ contracts for 1 year just to use money.

I like option B, I actually wondered about this when I first joined. The only thing I may caution is that now guys might lower the "up front" cost, sign for 3 years, and then buyout after 1 -- which in many instances might have left the losing bid with a better offer initially.
What if we added a caveat that the higher contract value wins (full length), however, you must have 1.5 times the AAV in order to make that offer? This way, you can't make low ball offers if you have few $$ to spend, and then just buyout at the end of the season.

This rule change is flawed and I don’t think it should be bid on as is. I’d suggest a slightly different model like this one:
Bidding on F/A's: When bidding on a posted f/a, teams are allowed to bid a Max of 3 times per player. The original post or illegal bids do not count as bids.
Bidding Equal Years: Minimum of $0.50 more Avg salary per season.
Adding Years: When adding years to a contract the players avg salary per season does not need to increase from the previous bid (
Reducing Years: Teams can reduce a Max of 2 years off the current bid. Teams can match the current total contract with less years or use the following formula: -When reducing the current bid by 1 year, the players avg salary per year must increase by 50% -When reducing the current bid by 2 years, the players avg salary per year must increase by 75%

I’m not sure I like making it that complicated to be honesty. Also, when I make a poll it’s not a final rule change, I just like to see how people are thinking about ideas brought up. So if this passes and it looks like there is interest, we will have a final rule vote. Preliminary votes are mainly to gauge interest
8-6 Is too close of a vote (and honestly, probably not enough participation to begin implementing a change). I think this is good to decide on moving forward, but not enough to make a change at this time.

Red Sox (Kris): We still have a MAX 20 prospects, correct?
Feb 26, 2024 9:15:10 GMT -5
Ryan (Cubs): Yes. 20 prospects is the MiLB max, you either need to drop a prospect or call someone up if you are over that limit.
Feb 26, 2024 11:56:08 GMT -5
Red Sox (Kris): I don’t, but I know that some do. So, to be clear, we can draft over the 20 limit as long as we cut down before the season starts?
Feb 29, 2024 23:45:26 GMT -5
Ryan (Cubs): Technically you should be dropping a player anytime a draft pick or trade takes you over the limit of 20. I must've missed it but Yankees needs to release one of his MiLB players, they are the only team over the limit right now

Rockies (Jose): Is Yuki Matsui rostered?
Mar 12, 2024 16:15:04 GMT -5
Ryan (Cubs): Technically you can't bid on Yuki in free agency until he pitches an inning in the MLB. You could have drafted him in the MiLB draft, but players that haven't made their debut can't be nominated in Free Agency.

Mariners (Rook): I do believe Ronel Blanco free agent final bid of $3/3 by LAD is invalid and the player should be returned to free agency. That was LAD last transaction and it put his cap -0.25. We can’t go negative cap. What say you?

Ryan (Cubs): @mariners, correct. LAD's bid on Blanco put him $.25 over the cap so the bid is invalidated. I've messaged LAD and dropped Blanco from his roster
