Milwaukee has $6.50 in cap, loses McHugh at $1.00 that gives him $7.50. receives $13 in the trade, that makes $20.50 and acquires Hamels at $22.50, the math doesn't work. How is this trade processed.
you can't buy somebody out who isn't officially on your roster you need the cap space on your roster in order to acquire him in the trade you did not do that you can't buy him out before he gets onto your roster

If Miami had Hamels and bought him out he can't be traded to Milwaukee? Milwaukee doesn't have the cap to make the deal. He can't accept Hamels balance of salary even with the $13 added to buy him out. Please clear up how Milwaukee can accept Hamels on his roster. One more time my math so it doesn't look like I'm being a dick.
Hamels at $22.50 = $13.00 = $9.50 (that's the cost of what you are moving to Milwaukee)
Milwaukee is moving McHugh at $1.00
Milwaukee has $6.50 in cash - moving McHugh gives him $7.50
Still $2 short to complete the deal.

Brewers clears $2 in cap space after buying him out - now if the question is “can you exceed the cap momentarily in order to buy a player out?” I don’t know...
I’m okay with it but it’s a little slippery and can set a bad precedent
so what is the limit in how much you can push the boundaries. Why have a huge explanation of rules and penalties for not following the rules and then allow 2 administrators to exceed them with no penalty. This is not a grey area. It clearly states if you make a transaction that puts you over the salary cap the transaction is reversed. Why have rues and then only follow them when it suits you. This is a clear violation of the rule. So if this stands, anyone can bid on any free agent and overbid past their salary cap and worry about it later. So why have a salary cap. Can I add too many players to my roster and then after the fact worry about how to get down to the correct number. I hate to come across as a complainer but really do you think his is not a violation of the set rules.

Agreed. I’m also for setting a firm precedent that you are never allowed to go into the red, no exceptions
The buyout is part of the trade. He was bought out right away.

Red Sox (Kris): We still have a MAX 20 prospects, correct?
Feb 26, 2024 9:15:10 GMT -5
Ryan (Cubs): Yes. 20 prospects is the MiLB max, you either need to drop a prospect or call someone up if you are over that limit.

Red Sox (Kris): I don’t, but I know that some do. So, to be clear, we can draft over the 20 limit as long as we cut down before the season starts?
Feb 29, 2024 23:45:26 GMT -5
Ryan (Cubs): Technically you should be dropping a player anytime a draft pick or trade takes you over the limit of 20. I must've missed it but Yankees needs to release one of his MiLB players, they are the only team over the limit right now

Mar 12, 2024 16:15:04 GMT -5
Ryan (Cubs): Technically you can't bid on Yuki in free agency until he pitches an inning in the MLB. You could have drafted him in the MiLB draft, but players that haven't made their debut can't be nominated in Free Agency.

Mariners (Rook): I do believe Ronel Blanco free agent final bid of $3/3 by LAD is invalid and the player should be returned to free agency. That was LAD last transaction and it put his cap -0.25. We can’t go negative cap. What say you?

Ryan (Cubs): @mariners, correct. LAD's bid on Blanco put him $.25 over the cap so the bid is invalidated. I've messaged LAD and dropped Blanco from his roster
