Cardinals, lower tier teams can maximize their assets but I higher tier has more assets to maximize because of the sliding scale salary cap. Lower tier team I offer this player plus this money for player x, higher tier team this player plus more money for player x. Which offer gets accepted given both players offered have similar value. Let me guess the higher tier team's offer because there is more cash going to the team trading the player. There isn't a lower tier team that can be as a aggressive as a higher tier team in free agency because they already start at a disadvantage. If the cap was the same there would be more parity in free agency contracts would be reasonable due to not having more cap to buyout bad contracts. Teams can be more aggressive if there wasn't a sliding scale salary cap. Also what makes this league Tigers isn't the rules made to keep the bottom tier teams at the bottom, it's the active owners.

Yes - lower tier teams are at a disadvantage - developing a strategy to even things out - to get $ is the key to the league. Rising up in the standings is one way.
If salary cap $ is the key to being competitive - then go get salary cap $ on the market.
Are lower level teams maximizing their assets to develop their plan? It’s a fair question.
Now, one thing I can not address is did the power 5 in this league get their through financial advantage? Did they get off to a good start and Use their $$ to forge the powerhouses that they have assembled?
I can’t change the past but look forward to finding a way into that top 5 club.

I took over a team 4 seasons ago that finished 16th place. I had no roster and no money. I traded prospects and pieced a team together with the sole goal of moving up in the standings. I got to 7th that year and EARNED a big raise. The next season I was 2nd and got another bump.
I think the thing that nobody is mentioning is that the top teams risk some because they can only go down. If a team spends on salary and then moves backward in the standings, the get pretty cash strapped quick.

Again you cant say we aren't trying to maximize our efforts. You have no idea what other teams are doing or trying to do. I'm very active working trade channels and chats however as a lower tier team I can tell you the majority of offers I've received do nothing to actually help me build my team and most are garbage totally lopsided offers that merely would put my team is a deeper hole long term. Like a 3rd round pick for Greineke and his salary. Shit what the fuck does that offer do for me??? Those owners know they have the upper hand. Again more money and assets. But they aren't offering those assets. Cause they dont have to they think they can low ball offers cause we lower teams dont really have any other option.
And let's be honest this poll wasnt ever setup to succeed. 1 option to keep things versus 2 to change where it would separate the votes to change (partially cause people dont read they could vote for more than 1 lol ) but we also have 20 owners and not 20 votes. So either we have owners who aren't active or dont care.
Again we are pretty much beating a dead horse here.

Nice work Cubs. I see a lot of prospect hoarding and it’s nice to hear someone that used those assets to move up in the standings. I haven’t seen players auctioned off too much in this league which surprises me. A team may have a great value player at $1.5 or $2 or $3 whatever and could possibly sell for $10 to $15 in future cap space. I just don’t see it often which surprises me a wee bit.

Rays - totally gets where you are coming from - doesn’t change my mind on the league but I went through the same garbage offers . Best of luck in moving up!

Again Cards as a team with cap now.. why would it change your mind now. lol. That's been my point. We aren't ever gonna convince guys with 20 or so more cap that they should have less. If this conversation happened 3 years ago before you all had the cap my guess is you would feel differently.
Moving on... if you want to trade. Hit m up. Still looking to move Greinke to a contender.

My point isn't just that the salary cap should be equal but that cap shouldn't be traded either. That would force creativity and parity because contracts wouldn't be ridiculous. Because then owners might not have the cap to give a ridiculous offer to a player and also have the ability to buy that player out during the same season. Plus maybe the free agency pool might actually have players in that were more than useful.

@rays- I don’t know if you’ll believe me or not - my Cap space now has zero influence over my back and forth on the topic. None.
I love the challenge and finding the unique ways to minimize the disadvantages I had taking over a team with bloated roster and not a lot of money. To me, that is as much fun as my injury riddled team and one pitcher holding out til June moving from 14th to 6th. Not sure I’ll be able to make that next leap but still have to be creative in doing it!

Just a BS poll to keep things the same to make it appear that parity matters in this league. It has been quite evident this off season that through trades that parity is the least important thing to managers. It's also apparent that while this league has active owners there are no check and balances.

Anyone remember the team the Brewers took over? He turned took the worst roster this league has ever seen and turned it into a title team in 3 years threw grinding and activity. Plenty of examples of teams putting in the work and using the league rules to improve.
Let’s say we do change the cap, when would that go in effect? 2023? Teams are already trading 2022 cap based on the current rules.
Post by TB Rays (RSP) on Jan 18, 2020 14:08:51 GMT -5
It could take place next season. They are trading cap not knowing what they have available anyway. So changing that really dont matter. If half their team needed on the DL this season and they sucked they still traded their cap away. So that really doesnt matter in this discussion. They made those deals having no clue what their capnsituation will be anyway.
Its not like we are proposing making the cap 100m. Just finding that middle point.

72% of managers voted to keep the cap system the same...this is not a close vote and you can’t say that it is “just the rich teams” if 13 people wanted it
Post by TB Rays (RSP) on Jan 18, 2020 14:20:05 GMT -5
It's not close cause of how the poll was designed. But again at this point it's just discussion we all know how this ends even before the vote happened. None of us for change actually expected to see it happen.
Post by Ryan (Cubs) on Jan 18, 2020 14:26:32 GMT -5
I had a problem with the poll too but because it allowed everyone to vote twice for a “change” option. 18 users voted a total of 21 times and the clear choice was still to keep it as is. How would you have changed it?
Post by Braves (Kyle) on Jan 18, 2020 15:27:40 GMT -5
I can say it's just the rich getting richer because it was a fake poll to appease those that actually had sense and wanted a positive change to even the playing field and create parity. Now we'll just sit back and end up in the bottom somehow. Besides this I also have a huge problem with the review and process of how trades are passed in this league. There have been some obvious lopsided and uneven trades since the league opened this year.

Again, I’ve been near the bottom every year so far in this league and my vote wouldn’t change. We all know how we feel and I think we all have valid reasons, but more people want it to be the same. If you create a single vote yes or no for change, the results will show that it looks like. Feel free if you want to
When there is no real money involved you have to make some benefit to finish higher in the standings. $2 cap per spot finish seems reasonable to encourage owners to have some benefit for staying active and trying to put a competitive product on the (Internet) field

I took over a stupidly bad team when I joined this league and always tried to improve and it wasn't because I was going to get an increase in cap space. There are two things that need to be changed but they won't because the top tier teams just want to have the advantage from year to year.
Post by Ryan (Cubs) on Jan 19, 2020 14:02:37 GMT -5
True, the top 13 managers in the league are all colluding to keep you down. Come on man...
No new manager has ever taken over an “elite” team, they work over several seasons to make them good. Successful managers adapt their strategy to the format of the league to develop a good team (something that there is a strong history that shows that it can be done) while other managers don’t and demand that the league change for them.
I think we added four really good managers this offseason and each has been very active in learning the rules and improving their team - each team needed A LOT of work due to stagnant prior ownership and they’ve made a lot of proactive moves targeted at making their team better within the context of the league. I’d put each of these teams higher in the rankings next year and as top 10 teams in the next several.
